This research focused on the assessment and mapping of widespread forest fires, which took place in central Algerian coastal areas (Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia) from August 9 to 14, 2021, using satellite data and geographical information system. The results show the importance of the burned areas which was about 42,910 ha of vegetation cover, which represent about 12% of the study area, including 31,216 ha in Tizi Ouzou and 11,694 ha in Bejaia. The topo-morphology of the region was an important factor in the wild fire propagation; the burnt surfaces correspond to terrain of me-dium to high altitudes, slopes and vegetation cover densities. In order to mitigate the fire severity and impacts, it is necessary to adopt appropriate risk management plans: pre, during and post fire.
