As a result for the air transport deregulation in the USA in the 70s, a new type of airline companies has sprung up, called the “low cost” companies. Their aim is to offer very attractive prices for an average quality of service.
Traditional airlines, facing this stiff “price competition” and being conscious of «low cost” companies threat, were obliged to seek for solutions allowing them to improve their competitiveness. In this context, a new pricing method called “yield management” has emerged in the United States to revolutionize the industry. This technique eventually spread around the world. It was not until 2006 that our airline Air Algerie has introduced this concept to face competition and benefit from its advantages.
