Authors : Guessabi Fatiha .

Abstract

Because of coronavirus, the Algerian system of higher education has shifted to a virtual platform using Google Classroom when the lockdown started, therefore, online teaching/learning has emerged as a solution to fully achieve the teaching of what remained from the academic-year programmes. However, like other developing countries, very few universities in Algeria could start online classes immediately after lockdown. Thus, new virtual classes appear in Algerian education. Teachers were asked to post their lectures on the E-learning platforms of their university and all the students had to access this platform to get their lectures from March 15th, 2020. In Bechar, the department of foreign languages failed to address the needs of students properly in learning languages and translation because of the lack of internet in the South and since E-learning is an important topic among educators especially in this period of the universal virus which is COVID-19, this study aims to investigate the use of E-learning in teaching translation/interpreting in Bechar by investigating its current status, assessing its pedagogical viability; advantages, disadvantages, its constraints and challenges. The methodology of the research is a questionnaire addressed to students of Bechar University and an interview with the teachers of translation. The findings of the research are that all the students are against learning through technology; they prefer the traditional way. Additionally, the students do not possess computers and cannot access easily to the platform because of the lack or even the absence of Internet, and finally, some aged teachers and learners claim not to have received training.
