A Critical Review Of The Importance Of Medium Term Planning For Language Teaching

Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper aims at critically discussing the importance of medium term planning for language teaching. It discusses its importance for certain issues particularly aims and objectives, content and integration of key skills, learners’ needs and theory of learning. It also sheds light on its importance for styles of teaching and learning, activities and resources, class management as well as assessment.Descriptive critical analysis technique is used to investigate the problem in question. A review of Literature is conducted to collect the data required. Main finding came to is that medium term planning for effective learning is of primary importance as it draws teachers’ attention to think methodologically of and put effectively into practice various instructional considerations very specifically for the aims, objectives, content, learners’ needs, the pedagogy, activities and resources as well as feedback.Recommendations are made to adopt medium term planning for language teaching and further studies be conducted in this area.
