Knowledge Of Braille For The Blind By Sighted Persons

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate what the sighted persons know about Braille, and to achieve this goal, the two researchers used the descriptive exploratory approach through designing an electronic questionnaire consisting of 16 questions divided into two main sections: (generalities by Braille - specifics by Braille ) The questionnaire was applied to an exploratory sample to verify its psychometric properties, then it was published in different scientific and student groups on the social networking site (Facebook); it was answered by (60) people with a high educational level of different specializations in Algerian and Arab universities (Tunis, Morocco, Syria, Iraq, Sudan) Results were analyzed using the percentage by the Statistical Package for Social Sciences program (Spss), and the final results are: 44.7% of the sighted people know generalities of Braille, and 28.71% of sighted people know specifics of Braille. Finally, the study recommended the sighted people should be introduced to Braille in order to achieve the full integration of the blind in society.
