Promoting Cooperative Skills Within Mixed-ability Groups Using Interdependent Rewards

Authors : Habi Lynda . Menezla Nadia .

Abstract

The current study straddles the social cohesion and social motivational perspectives on cooperative learning. While task interdependence is symmetrically established in the two the experimental groups, reward interdependence is manipulated over two levels: interdependent-shared reward structure and interdepdentent-individualistic reward structure. The aim from this experiment is to extend theory and research regarding group contingencies, by investigating the effects of two different reward pedagogies on the development of cooperative interpersonal skills within heterogeneous level groups. Results of a self-report questionnaire from 10 teams learning through Group Investigation method at Barika university center supported the hypothesis; Interdependent-individualistic reward pedagogy better promoted cooperative skills than did interdependent-shared reward pedagogy.
