الملخص
لما أصبحت الحدود الرومانية عبارة عن سلسلة متصلة من المواقع المنيعة بسبب أهميتها ، استطاعت التغلب على التفوق العددي للبرابرة المغيرون، مما أدى الى تزويد القلاع بالفرسان والرماة الراكبين لمناوشة العدو ، وتمزيق صفوفه، إذ تقرر استخدام الفرق على نطاق واسع ، فعقد الأباطرة الرومان العزم على الوقوف في وجه حشد من المغيرين من جميع النواحي ، ذلك بفضل التنظيم السديد لسد هجمات الأعداء من البحر والبر ،حيث لجأوا الى تكوين تشكيلات جديدة، واتخاذ معدات مستحدثة ، و بالأخص استخدام آخر ما وصلت اليه أسلحة المدفعية لرد أعدائهم . كانت الحاجة لصد الغارات،ضرورة تأطير قدر أكبر من خفة الحركة وطائفة أكبر من القوات المدربة على أنواع معينة من الاسلحة، والى مزيد من الرماة السهام والرماح والمشاة الراكبة،لكن افتقار الاباطرة الرومان للرجال، اضطرهم استئجار أو تجنيد قوات من البرابرة بأعداد متزايدة، ومع هذا الجيش الجديد والاساليب المستحدثة ،حلت تشكيلات ألقاب جديدة مثل الدوق محل الفرق والكتائب وقادة الفرق . كلمات مفتاحية: الرومان ، الجيش، التجهيز ، التأطير ، الأسلحة، الغارات، الحدود.
