This work deals with a study of a wind power system based on a synchronous generator with permanent magnets driven by a variable speed turbine. First, a general overview on wind energy and the different types of generators are given. In a second step, the first part of the wind chain, is modeled namely the high power wind turbine and the MPPT control strategy. This one allows to the power coefficient to be maintained at an optimal value regardless in the variations in the power and wind speed. Then, the permanent magnet synchronous generator, the PWM rectifier by the operation, its control and the three-phase inverter (which allows injection into the network) are studied with Matlab software. The vector control applied to the permanent magnet synchronous generator makes it possible to have a similar behavior of the DC machine with separate excitation. In the end, simulation results permit to analyze the behavior of the wind power generation system.
