الملخص
After the French landing in Algeria in 1830, many French and European people travelled to the new colony. Thus, there appeared a succession of decrees organizing the conditions of settlement in the new colony by the foreign individuals. And all along with this policy making, the region of Sidi Bel Abbes noticed a wide settling movement, which resulted in the settlement of a big number of Europeans. This led to a demographic battle to slow down the number of original inhabitants that was outnumbering that of the new settlers. But, in spite of those efforts, the colonial authorities could not hide their disappointment, as the results showed that the Muslims’ mass remained more numerous than that of the Europeans.
