ABSTRACT : methodological currents follow one another, didactic approaches are renewed and pedagogical orientations evolve, but french as a foreign language teachers maintain usually an ambiguous positioning in relation with translation. If the use of native language seems nowadays accepted and its benefits recognized, the place and the potential role of a pedagogical and structured translation remains to be defined, beyond impressions that cannot take place of principles and intuitions that cannot be compared to a methodology.
