Abstract

Abstract Description of the subject: wastewater treatment has been imposed to preserve the quality of natural environments, treated wastewater may be used either for certain needs of the industrial sector or for the irrigation of certain crops in the agricultural sector. Objective: Considering the use of wastewater is allowed in different sectors of activity and pollution is now increasing, our study is based on the introduction of potentially more efficient microbiological and physicochemical to treat wastewater by incorporation of Moringa oliefera Lam seeds. Methods: Weekly, from February until mid-April 2018, many wastewater samples were taken from the main sewer in the Oued of Bechar in South-West of Algeria. The filtration systems suggested in our study include the use of gravel layers in different diameters, sand and 1 % of seed powder defatted and not defatted of Moringa ol mixed with sand. The filtered water is analysed and tested for the total mesophil flora, fecal coliforms, totals coliforms, Streptococci group D ,Salmonella, Clostridium, Vibrio cholera, Staphylococcus aureus, and for physicochemical parameters as pH, conductivity , turbidity, nitrate, nitrite, phosphate, ammonium, COT and some heavy metals. Results: The obtained results from filter prepared with defatted seeds powder show that seeds can perfectly eliminate 96% of Clostridium, and remove streptococci with 81 %. Moreover, the second filter realized with simple seeds powder eliminate 97 % and 84 % of Streptococcus and Clostridium respectively. As for the physicochemical effect, the seeds generate an undesirable change as a high conductivity with average 2771 µS/cm and great turbidity 202 NTU as result of incorporation of seeds powder and COT with a simple nitrite reduction.. Although a best elimination of Cadmium is recorded in water treated with defatted seeds powder. Conclusion: The presented treatment follow an effectiveness of Moringa oleifera lam seed in purification which can be more performed.
