Sms Texting, Language Use And Gender In An Efl Academic Context

Abstract

The present paper attended to explain the issue of language use and gender differences while using SMS texting in a multilingual context. To this end, a questionnaire was administered to EFL students of the University of Algiers 2, to account for the participants’ languages’ use and major drives concerning the utilised languages. The data showed that both male and female texters mix languages almost similarly but for different reasons.
