Some Immuno-allergy Aspects Of Scorpion Envenoming Syndrome

Résumé
During the last two decades, immunological theories focusing on the allergic reaction to scorpion venom and the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) were more and more utilized to complete the autonomous nervous theory within the pathophysiology of scorpion envenomation (SE). A review of clinical and experimental evidence is needed to enlighten Saharan doctors by providing them with the basic elements regarding these immunobiological theories in order to enhance SE management. The proof of concept of triggering SIRS in severe stages of SE in humans has been implemented by several teams around the world and the therapeutic concept focused on the pharmacological targeting of innate immunity has succeeded in experimental models. It remains therefore, to invest in transational medicine to reduce the mortality rate due to SE.
