The area of collocation the in lexis is of prime importance and forms a serious problem for language learners. The linguistic sequences do not follow a prescribed pattern as they are not rule-governed. The more the learner is capable of producing the correct collocations, the fewer hesitations or pauses he makes in long chunks of discourses and consequently, the more competent in the Foreign Language he becomes. Finding the appropriate English Collocational sequences is the difficulty arab learners of english face, even at advanced levels of proficiency. In fact, the present study attempts at probing any discrepancy in the learners competence on the attributed set tasks. Students recognition, actually, in the receptive tasks is better than the productive ones, for proficiency. But for graduates, they surpassed language difficulities remarkably on both receptive and productive tasks. The findings raise the need for a more constructive instructional focus on the phenomenon of collocation in English at both school and university levels.
