The Phoenicians built several Punic trading posts, including Skikda, which took the name of Rucicade during the Roman period. It was part of the Cirtean confederation. Several archaeological excavations have shown the ruins of Rucicade as the Roman theater and arches. This city has lived more than 450 years.
