Résumé
The restitution of the trajectory of Mr. Karim is indicative of a long professional experience which allowed him to acquire certain knowledge on the different activities that he had to perform and the products used. Knowing and naming most of the substances, he could also tell us how he carried out his work and the working conditions he was facing. The information provided by Mr. Karim on his professional activity is very important in highlighting exposures to occupational carcinogens. It also reveals the masks that serve to construct the invisibility of occupational cancer. The description of the different work procedures by the patient justifies the story presented in this article. «Travailler peut nuire gravement à votre santé», est le titre de l’ouvrage écrit par la sociologue Annie Thébaud-Mony (2008). Il illustre à lui seul, le propos de cet article puisqu’il met en évidence les liens entre travail et santé, en particulier les atteintes à la vie, à la santé et à la dignité des travailleurs. Parmi ces atteintes, figure le cancer professionnel, une pathologie qui résulte de l’exposition professionnelle de l’individu à un ou plusieurs cancérogènes. Il faut compter environ 10 à 30 ans d’activité professionnelle dans la même branche et exercer des tâches bien précises pour que le cancer soit reconnu en pathologie professionnelle susceptible d’être indemnisé par la sécurité sociale.
