Abstract

During the last few decades, there has been a period of many international changes in most areas of modern life. People are confronting increased cultural diversity in their economic, political, and social spheres. As educators, we ought to prepare our students for the needs of the new millennium, we must be aware of many of the changes occurring globally. Economic integration and new communication technologies have broken down geographic isolation and increased up human mobility. First, there is more physical mobility: an increasing number of people are moving between countries for overseas work or studies. Second, there is what might be called economic mobility: the business world is in the process of globalization both in terms of national businesses increasingly operating in an international context and in terms of multi-national companies investing on the national scene. Third, there is virtual mobility: the increasing ease of communication by various high-tech means, which facilitates trade contacts and international projects. Students learning is locally and globally networked through, for example, the Internet, e-communications, visiting programs, and local and global exchange programs. The Internet enables in-dividuals to have mutual exchanges with distant others even if they have never had face-to face meeting.
