Abstract : Ibn Baja raised a very strange philosophical issue that takes up an intellectual adventure which Muslim philosophers did not dare to tackle it in a rigid, rigorous, critical manner. This issue is “prophecy" and the controversy related to it in terms of the relationship between the knowledge derived through the mind, and that which its source is Revelation. The strange aspect of Ibn Baja’s raised issue is the fact he remained silent about it marginalising it from the philosophical thinking on the basis of the mind’s argumentative ability to perform the same exact cognitive function connected to it, and the attainment of the same horizon and ontological purpose it seeks. Therefore, Ibn Baja’s philosophy tends to prioritise the mind over revelation and philosophers over prophets. Furthermore, he considers that the philosopher/ loner implicates in his consciousness and philosophical thought all of the prophecy’s criteria and can achieve both cognitively and ontological, through possible and natural human potential, all what a prophet can achieve through grace and divine potential. Thus, the philosopher can practice the prophetic function, so that he is a possible prophet. This cognitive function and ontological feature which holds a prophetic touch represented by the philosopher, is what made Ibn Baja refuses to provide a space for prophecy and the prophet in his philosophical, intellectual system and placing it outside his utopian city based on his belief that the philosopher can achieve all of this city’s needs following Plato’s position of poets and poetry when he expelled them from his republic; however, Ibn Baja and Plato differ in principles and visions. Thus, why Ibn Baja marginalised prophecy in his philosophical discourse? And what are the reasons and arguments behind expelling the need of his city to prophecy? And in what sense does the philosopher practice his prophetic function? And what are the philosophical expectations of his unorthodox system which is deviant from the prevailed system? This study intends to answer these questions through referring back to the origins of the issue of prophecy and then analysing and deconstructing the concept
