Abstract

Plants and their active constituents play an important role in the prevention of a variety of ailments. Vitex agnus-castus L. was already in ancient medicinal art as an official medicinal plant.These species contain a variety of potentially bioactive molecules, such as iridoids, flavonoids, diterpenoids and essential oils. This review attempts to encompass the available literature onVitex agnus-castus L. for giving an overview of the most widely studied of the known phytochemical constituents.
