Modern societies are aware of the importance of foreign languages learning. They are urged to manage the linguistic education of their people, though with different needs, interests and objectives. Nevertheless, this linguistic management is never free from the interference of social, political or economic changes that influence not only the needs or the objectives, but the priorities within their educational systems, too. Therefore, such changes bring with them new trends and new approaches that may be seen as mere reactions against old ones, and do not necessarily attain the society’s total consent
