The cost of milk production in Algeria has become a topical issue due to the rising prices of inputs and food expenses. Moreover, it is a measurement indicator of the performance and the economic sustainability of the dairy were operating. The aim of this work is to make a comparative study of the cost of producing a liter of milk for various milk production systems at the Wilaya of Bejaia. To do this, an investigation by 28 breeders to been achieved through a questioner. Four systems of production have been identified according to a set of discriminative factors, 2 specialized in milk and 2 producers of meat and milk. The middle cost of production by system was of 46,09; 50,80; 50,28 and 55,72 DA for the systems 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively, often superior at the cost of sale to the dairies (47 DA/liter). However, the sale of milk doesn't always constitute the only source of product. A production of some of fodder in the exploitation and an improvement of the productivity is recommended to decrease the milk production cost.
Comparison, production cost, profitability, system of production.
